What is Needed to Archive your Active Source Data Set?
Principal Investigators of experiments that have received EPIC support are required to archive their data set as described in the EPIC data delivery policy. To get started with the archiving process you will need your raw data and the data about your data, a.k.a. the metadata. In PH5 format, the bulk of the data set's metadata are stored within the PH5 tables, whereas in SEG-Y, the metadata are stored both in the trace and gather headers and in separate reports and/or documents. In order for archiving of the experiment to be considered complete, we require submission of the waveforms in PH5 or SEG-Y, metadata either within the PH5 tables/SEG-Y headers or in separate reports and/or documents, and a written report (.txt, .doc, or .pdf). Below are guidelines for writing your report along with specifics as to the required metadata.
Experiment ReportWe request that all active-source data sets include a report as part of the archiving requirement. While specific requirements for the format of the report do not exist, all reports submitted should include:
Maps and other figures are welcome and encouraged but not required. The report should contain enough information that a researcher who is unfamiliar with the project can scan the report and determine whether or not the data would be useful to them. In addition, for SEG-Y format data sets, any information that is required to make use of the data that is not in the headers should be included in the form of tables or as separate data files (e.g., source information including coordinates, size, etc., receiver coordinates, distance from source to receivers, etc.). |

Required SEG-Y headers
Additional information required for archiving a SEG-Y data set includes source information (location, type of source, size, etc.), receiver locations, and source to receiver distance. If this information is not in the SEG-Y headers, please make sure to include it in the report.
